Tagged: explaining animal behaviour science

Why have I started a blog?

I am finally lurching into the internet age.

I work in academia, and much of what I do is focused on conducting research, writing scientific papers for peer reviewed journals, and teaching students about the scientific basis for clinical animal behaviour practice.

There is a lot of useful research which enhances our understanding of animal behaviour. However, key elements can get lost or miscommunicated by media who are looking for sound bites or a ‘good story’, and the benefits of research can take a long time to filter down to those who deal directly with animals on day-to-day basis.

With this blog, I am hoping to help this process a little, by examining some areas of current debate, misunderstanding or controversy, and explaining the science that underpins our modern understanding of companion animal behaviour and welfare… and perhaps also add a smattering of my own opinions!

So welcome to my blog! I hope you find it enlightening, interesting and maybe even challenging. Most of all it is a celebration of the amazing animals with which we share our lives.
